"It's not even the good kind of candy"
This season the show is really focusing on more than just the four liars. We're seeing more of their parents, siblings, acquaintances, etc. While it's a nice move, it really made this episode lack when it came to how much story time the girls got.
Emily hardly had anything going on in this episode. She is now living with Hanna and her mother, she is making them breakfast and letting them know how grateful she is for being welcomed into their home. Her only problem is how distracting Hanna can be when "every night is a sleepover". She also is having pains that she says are from her longer work outs for swimming.
Hanna is enjoying having Emily staying at her house. Her only worries lie in Caleb who is struggling for money and refuses to accept anymore help from Hanna. She tells him she does not like seeing him do sketchy stuff to get money. Caleb informs her of the difference between sketchy and criminal. Caleb previously got involved with some bad guys who stole cars, and when he got out they were angry. Luckily he was gone before they did anything to him. She suggest he go to the police but he refuses and makes her promise to keep his secret to herself, as she is now the only person he has told. Later while she is chilling with Emily, Hanna sees her parents laughing, kissing, and walking to the bedroom together.
Spencer's father has hired Toby to do some work at their house around the barn. He has already nixed Jason's plans to build a fence that would have been on their property. Things are going well, Toby has got a head start and even had some design ideas that were well received by Mr. Hastings. Spencer is talking to Garret (their cop buddy), who tells her that Logan is gone and she should stop pushing for questions since Ian confessed and is dead. Meanwhile, Toby discovers part of a field hockey stick in the Hastings backyard. When Peter (Spencer's father) sees this he takes it and assures Toby not to worry about it. Toby tells Spencer who realizes that it was her stick that she lent to Alison. She and Aria remember Jason jokingly trying to hit Alison with it at one point. Peter tells Toby not to inform Spencer of what he found, Toby tells him that he already has but lies and says Spencer was not interested in it. Later Spencer sees her father about to burn it, she begs him not to. He is tired of the investigation, Ian is dead and now it's time for them to move on. Spencer watches as her father throws the stick into the fire. Spencer worries her father thinks she is trying to cause more drama and attention. While she is talking more with Garret, she gets a text message from Aria warning her not to trust him.
Aria's family is having a dinner party and Ezra has been invited. Aria asks him not to go but he tells her that it would be best for their relationship if he came and let people see them as friends. Aria runs into Jason, who is planning on talking to the troubled kids at Rosewood, and finds out that he will be joining the get together as well. Their parents really want Mike to go, and he is ordered to attend. While at school, Aria's mother questions her about who could have pulled that "prank" at the fashion show, but Aria assures her that she has no idea. Ezra and Jason are both present at the dinner party where everything comes to a halt when the police arrive to inform them that Mike has been arrested for breaking into a home. Aria's parents rush to see their son and eventually Aria is left with Ezra and Jason. She confides in Jason (the other person who knew about Mike's trouble), she blames herself but Jason tells her that she cannot beat herself up for what her brother does. Ezra doesn't seem happy to see Aria chatting with Jason. Later Aria asks the men to leave after she finds the pottery Jenna made in class among the stolen items that Mike has. She later confronts Mike who tells her he got the pottery from Garret's apartment. Aria realizes that Garret is connected to Jenna and alerts her friends.
We also see that the Mom's are getting suspicious about everything that has happened this past year with the girls.
A sends Hanna and Emily a basket with a card that says: "What fun, two liars under one roof. You're making it so easy." - A.
At the end we see "A" injecting some liquid with a needle into a bottle.
This episode was lacking major with our Liars. We hardly saw Emily, and very little of Hanna. Plus the stories themselves just aren't flowing and everything just seems to be thrown together. Let's hope the episodes bounce back up soon. There was still some good drama and twists, the girls finally know Garret is working with Jenna, and Spencer's father is making the plot even more twisted and interesting. We give this episode a
B-, the episode just didn't have enough excitement to make up for the dull moments this time. But it's Pretty Little Liars and they still have enough surprises to keep them from getting a very low grade.
