LGBT Represent!

It's the end of pride month here in America. We feel it's time to give credit to teen dramas. As many fans know they are not take seriously that often in the industry. These shows have a history of bringing up the groundbreaking issues that other shows are too afraid to touch. LGBT storylines are becoming heavily represented in teen drama today.

Degrassi is known for having so far having seven LGBT main characters in it's 11 seasons, four are currently on the show. Gay athelte couple Riley and Zane are in their senior year. Fashionable, wealthy, alcoholic Fiona recently came out as a lesbian after her ended relationship with Degrassi's first transgendered character Adam who is an FTM.

Skins has had four LGBT characters of it's own. Franky currently identifies herself as pansexual, being "into people".

Pretty Little Liars has gained praise for having the character Emily come out as a lesbian and deal with her family drama involved in coming out.

90210 recently had one of it's main character's Teddy come out as gay. However Teddy's character is being written out in season 4.

Other teen dramas as well have really helped make the world more informed and accepting of LGBT youths and should be appreciated for proving that their is change in new generations.

Teen Choice Award Nominations Announced!!!

The 2011 Teen Choice Nominations were announced today! Gossip girl is the most nominated Teen Drama this year. The Secret Life, Make It or Break It, and Teen Wolf were all represented. Others like Degrassi, 90210, and Pretty Little Liars were snubbed this year.

House of Anubis: Renewed!!!

More big news from over the pond. Nickelodeon's hit drama that won over teen audiences is coming back for a second season in 2012 officially!!!! Taping will begin July 21st in Liverpool.

Who would guess that Nickelodeon would create one of TV's best new drama's? Or that kids would be more inclinded to watch a TV show taped in another country (something adults rarely do with television hence Skins US). It's only the second drama in the network's history. Anubis uses the telenovela format that is seen in soaps. It had great success much like Degrassi's telenovela summer specials.

House of Anubis is based off the original Dutch version which also has a German adaption. Anubis is known around the world and finally the English speaking world is enjoying it.

Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide have already scooped the news:

Anyone excited?

Pretty Little Liars: My Name Is Trouble

"Your family has the worst apples"

Another pretty good episode of PLL, though they rarely have a dull one. PLL has success in not only dishing out a surprise or twist every 5 minutes and still being able to do real relatable stories such as parents, romance, sexuality etc. and this episode was no exception.

Aria is now enrolled in a pottery class where Ezra (aka Mr. Fitz) is now teaching. The two embrace and kiss wihle on campus which is seen by his ex girlfriend Jackie unbeknownst to them. The story shifts to Aria being in class with Jenna and disguising her name as "Anita" to keep Jenna from realizing the situation, despite Ezra's suggestion that she make things right with Jenna. The two share an emotional scene alone while admiring Jenna's work. Jenna confides in "Anita" her sadness over her blindness. Aria gets emotional as well and Jenna soon realizes it's her. A furious Jenna realizes she has just confided in Aria of all people.

Emily is desperate to stay in Rosewood. She goes as far as to make a fake letter from the University offering her a full scholarship if she stays, however once her mother shows remorse for her early reactions to Emily's sexual orientation, Emily tears the letter up and throws it away. Emily is later shocked when the letter arrives anyway and her mother happily rushes to tell her father. Emily digs through her trash to see a letter from "A" who has decided to keep Emily around to continue the game of cat and mouse.

Hanna seems to want to keep her father at arm's length and is suspcious of her parents getting rather chummy with each other. Her father also confides in her that he is having problems with his soon to be wife Isabelle over the wedding. Hanna catches up with Lucas and finds out that Caleb has been staying with him. Hanna works on the yearbook with Lucas and helps set him up with a girl on the staff. Hanna then makes a shocking choice when she deletes a text message from Isabelle to her father that could help save their relationship and get their marriage back on track.

Spencer is suspcious as to what Melissa might be hiding. Her fears are exacerbated when she finds out Toby is working for Jason whom she has grown to fear. Spencer begins to suspect someone is living in Jason's house after a few glances shadows in the window and some bloody rags falling out of the trash. Spencer also has a flashback to seeing Alison in tears after being so angry and upset with Jason and threatening to get him kicked out of their grandmother's will, which she claimed was his biggest fear. Spencer finds Melissa's ring she lost and pawns it to help buy Toby the truck he needs for his job. She plans on buying the ring back on the following Monday. Toby and Spencer finally say the L word to each other and their romance continues. The girls follow Melissa as she goes to meet someone down the street. They are shocked to see none other than Melissa's ex boyfriend Wren! This raises so many other questions as does every other PLL ending.

"A"'s scene involves the purchase of Melissa's ring from the pawn shop under the impression that Spencer stole it.

Why would Wren be talking to Melissa? Will Emily stay in Rosewood now? Will Jenna get revenge on Aria? Did Hanna ruin her father's new romance? Will the pawn shop owner possibly describe "A" to Spencer when she comes back for the ring?

We would give this episode a B. It was not action packed and PLL has had better episodes. But the actual real, heartfelt, relatable scenes were great. We have gone past the initial introduction part of the series and now we care about these girls and can enjoy watching them go through their personal lives whether they are melodramatic or not.

What did everyone else think of the episode?

Degrassi: New Characters for Now or Never!

In case you have not been keeping up to date on all things Degrassi, we are doing it for you. Degrassi is introducing 3 new characters into the grade 11 class.
Justin Kelly, Cristine Prosperi, and Chloe Rose, play: Jake Martin, Imogen Moreno, and Katie Matlin.

Apparently they are speculated to each be involved with three misfits romantically: Eli, Clare, and Adam.

Jake is Degrassi'a newest hunk, Katie is a Marisol's BFF, and Imogen is going to be one Degrassi's most interesting characters.

Don't miss Degrassi:  Now or Never! July 18th! On Teennick!!!

(The new characters will not appear until later episodes because the Spring Break Special was taped prior to their casting).

Skins Series 6 News

Dakota Blue, who plays Franky on the UK teen drama, recenlty spoke out to the press saying that the next series of Skins would be "crazy".

It sounds like they are following the Skins traditional formula. Every two seasons focuses on a different generation. The first season tends to be more of a fun introduction to the characters and the second is much more dark and somewhat depressing. This also means not only will the next generation conclude at the end of the next season but also one of the now beloved characters may die, simaler to the characters of Chris and Freddie in previous seasons.

There are also expected to be more twists! Last season already had plenty of that with surprises of which characters were related to each other. Fans are already speculating a romance between Queen Bee Mini and her androgynous pal Franky.

Any speculation if one of the characters will die and which it will be?

DVD Releases: Summer 2011

Degrassi Season 10 Part 1 was released last May. There is no word yet on when Part 2 will be released.

Pretty Little Liars released The Complete First Season on June 7 to coincide with the season 2 premiere.

The Secret Life of the American Teenager also released it's Volume 6 on June 7.

90210 will release it's Third Season on August 30th.

Skins: US CANCELLED!!!

The American adaption of the UK hit teen drama Skins was apparently not a hit in the US and was offiically cancelled on June 9 2011. The PTC made sure people were well aware of how "controversial" Skins was going to be. The more censored and less racy version of the UK show aired on MTV and still was considered pushing it fo American television. Ratings struck high at first but dwindled down until the very end. What do you think? Should Skins have been given another chance? Or was this another failed remake?

Want to rewatch or check out US Skins? http://www.mtv.com/shows/skins/series.jhtml

The original Skins from the UK is expected to return for it's 6th season (or series in the UK) in January of 2012.

90210 Comings and Goings in the Zip!

Trevor Donovan is OUT after his character Teddy Montgomery came out on the show. No word as to whether or not his character's storyline played a role in him being let go by the new showrunners. Donovan will return as a guest star for about 5 episodes.

Five new recurring characters will be introduced in the Fall. Austin, described as a charming and hunky cowboy and the son of a country music superstar. Holly, Naomi's rival at California University. Gabe, a student at CU who forges as immediate connection with Annie, but may have an ulterior motive. Jane, a young widow and love-interest for Liam, and Jasmeen, Navid's younger and trouble making sister. (No casting for new characters has been announced yet).
90210 Season 4 premieres on Tuesday September 13 on The CW!!!!

Degrassi: Now or Never

The 11th season of Degrassi is on it's way. Make sure you are up to date on the music video, trailer, and new opening.

Degrassi will return July 18 and once again be doing the telenovela that rocked Teennick last year (Degrassi: The Boiling Point). Now it's being titled Now or Never and will run for 4 episodes a week for 7 weeks, ending on September 1st.

The senior class of Degrassi will graduate and make way for new niners to step in and continue Degrassi's history.

TV Teen Drama 101 plans to bring you all the Degrassi news and reviews for Now or Never!!! Don't miss it!!!
